The Unusual Close-up Stylings of R.T. Starke
A collaboration of some earlier work, and other effects that have not yet been published. Close-up magic, strange wacky thinking and best of all they are EASY to do.
The Whole Miracle: A selection is signed and placed between two jokers. All 3 cards then have holes punched through them and a ribbon is carefully threaded through the all of the holes. All 3 cards are fairly and cleanly shown to be threaded on the ribbon, The cards are clipped together and seen to dangle from the ribbon. A Flick of the wrist and the signed selection falls from the centre of the cards penetrating the ribbon without harming it in any way! The card can be left as a souvenir!
Nailed And Screwed: Here's an strange effect- A small piece of wood is displayed with a small hole drilled right through its centre. The performer then takes a hammer, and short nail, which may be inspected, and hammers the nail into the wood. The performer then has everyone focus on the head of the nail. A quick wipe with his thumb and the nail head instantly morphs into a SCREW HEAD! Yes, that is right! The performer then has to use a small phillips head screwdriver to unscrew what used to be a nail from the block of wood!
UPC Miracle: Winner of a Linking Ring Award! A deck of cards, each with a bar code on the back, is used to cause a blank deck to: first print a free selection, not known to either the performer or spectator; then to cause the entire blank deck to become printed in the exact same order as the Bar Coded Deck; lastly a "glitch" in the system causes one of the cards to get printed in a crazy fashion combining cards from the entire deck into one. A complete card "act" that can play several minutes. No difficult sleights, but it WILL take some setup and practice.
Stapled Card Mystery: Similar to an old marketed effect, but without the use of gimmicks and not as costly. Performer then has the spectator select a card which is shuffled into the deck. The Joker is shown and slid sideways into the deck so that it forms an X shape. A Stapler is sat on top of the deck, and the performer then slams his hand down on top of it. Performer then lifts the sideways Joker and card fall from above , leaving one left, STAPLED to the joker. The card is of course the selected card. The joker and selected card are taken apart by tearing the joker off, everything can now be handed out!
1..2...3...ZAP! A Selection penetrates the card box and ends up threaded on the middle of a ribbon that is held tight by a spectator! Also taught is a strange version with Tarot Cards!
Items are all taught with illustrations, the gimmicks are easy to construct, only basic sleights and subtleties! So simple you can concentrate on your performance!
