Ring in Walnut - By John Shryock
For a sequence of magical events it doesn't get much more magical than this!
A ring is borrowed and the spectator is given a lemon as a receipt, rather strange, but it will all become clear!
The borrowed ring is placed cleanly into a drawer string bag that the spectator holds, this is then smashed with a hammer until it is certain that the ring could not have survived! The bag is opened and the contents spilled out. However instead of finding pieces of the ring, bits of walnut fall out!
A puzzled look from the magician towards the spectator and the lemon prompts an anticipating gasp from the audience, (they think they know where it is going! but oh how wrong are they!) As the magician takes a knife to the lemon and starts to cut it open, a very bizarre sight occurs, an egg pops into sight... from INSIDE the lemon!
A curious situation, as everyone knows that an egg is nature's very own sealed package, completely impossible to penetrate without breaking it...
HOWEVER! The egg is cracked open and to everyone's surprise INSIDE the egg is another little package, a walnut! The walnut is removed from inside the egg and is inspected by the spectator, who finds out that it is just a normal walnut... or is it!
The walnut is carefully cracked open and INSIDE the walnut is the spectator's ring! A complete miracle!
Remember, the lemon is in full view the whole time, it is never switched, the same lemon that you hand to the spectator is the same lemon you cut open to find the egg inside. It is also worth pointing out that your hands are unmistakenably empty when you get the walnut back to open it up for the spectator. The cracking open of the walnut is a fair as it can be, no funny quick movements or covering angles because the ring REALLY IS INSIDE the walnut!!
John's routine is one of the finest routines in magic and should be kept a very closely guarded secret indeed... shhhh!
